This week I played around with some of the attributes from them
glacier shapefile that I downloaded from the National Snow and ice center and
created graduated symbols. I copied the shapefile layer twice into the data
frame to create two new layers. One for Elevation and one for area. However, I
had to look at the layers separately because things got too crowded on the map.
The map with the dark blue graduated symbols represents the area of the
glaciers. The map with the lighter blue graduated symbols represent the mean
elevation of the glaciers. I will have to spend sometime next week thinking
about how the best way to represent all of this on the map at once as to not
make it look to crowded and confusing. I am also thinking of a new approach to
my project. I will now be analyzing the mean elevation and the areas of the
glaciers in correspondence to the average yearly temperatures. I am hoping this
approach will be more feasible than my original plan to see the changes of the
glaciers over time with respect to temperature.
